The Bastion of Liberty exhibition

The Visitor Regulations (hereinafter: the Regulations) are intended to set out the conduct expected of all persons present at “The Bastion of Liberty” Exhibition (hereinafter: the Exhibition), located in the Citadella Fortress at Citadella Promenade 1, 1110 Budapest (land registry no. 5412, 11th District), and operated by Várkapitányság Nonprofit Zrt. (registered office: 6 Ybl Miklós Square, 1013 Budapest, hereinafter: the Company). These Regulations also establish the fundamental rules necessary to ensure that cultural programmes held on the premises can be carried out to the highest standard. In order to ensure a pleasant stay for all, all visitors are expected to behave in a considerate manner on the premises, in keeping with the norms of community life and mutual respect.

Scope of the Regulations

These Regulations apply to all persons entering the Exhibition. By entering, visitors accept the rules set out herein. Visitors acknowledge that they enter the premises at their own risk and that they are required to follow any instructions, restrictions, or warnings issued by the Company’s staff or security personnel.

While on the premises, visitors must refrain from any behaviour that could endanger their own safety or that of others, or put at risk the property of others, as well as the equipment and fittings of the Exhibition.

Opening Hours


Exhibition

  • Monday–Thursday, Saturday–Sunday: 10am–6pm; (last tickets issued at 4.40pm)
  • Friday: 12–8pm (last ticket issued at 6.40pm)

Park:

  • November–March: 8am–10pm
  • April–October: 6am–Midnight

Visitors are asked to leave the Exhibition by the time the building closes. Any exceptional opening hours that differ from the above may be found on our official website at www.citadella.hu.

Rules on the Purchase of Admission Tickets

The Exhibition may only be visited with a valid admission ticket, except on national holidays or other designated thematic days, when entry is free but requires prior registration.
Tickets for the Exhibition may be purchased in person at the information points in the Buda Castle Palace District or at the Exhibition ticket office, and online at www.citadella.hu
Each ticket admits entry only within the time slot indicated.
Tickets can be refunded or exchanged for a different time slot only in the event of a programme cancellation.
Tickets cannot be refunded due to incorrect time slot booking, late arrival or no-show for any other reason.
If a programme at the Exhibition is cancelled or the Exhibition cannot be accessed during the purchased time slot, tickets bought in person may be refunded at our ticket office, while tickets purchased online may be refunded through InterTicket Ltd., following the procedure and deadline specified on our website (www.citadella.hu).

Admission

Visitors are requested to arrive at least 15 minutes before the entry time shown on their ticket. Visitors arriving later than their reserved entry time as shown on the ticket will not be admitted.
Visitors who have purchased tickets in advance are asked to have them ready at entry, either in printed form or accessible on a mobile device.
Health and safety regulations in force at the time of the visit, as well as any governmental recommendations, must be observed. Várkapitányság Nonprofit Zrt. reserves the right to introduce stricter measures if necessary.
Entry to the Exhibition is organised in time slots to ensure the smooth operation of the Exhibition and to limit the number of visitors present at any one time for fire safety, as well as for the protection of exhibits and other property.
Pushchairs are permitted, provided the child remains seated in the pushchair. Children under two years of age may only enter in a pushchair or in a front-mounted baby carrier.
For schools or other children’s groups, it is the responsibility of the group leader to ensure that a sufficient number of adults accompany the group, appropriate to its size.
The Exhibition is fully accessible and can be visited by wheelchair users.
Before entering the exhibition space, visitors are asked to silence their mobile phones and, where possible, to avoid making loud calls.

Exhibition Areas

Visitors must not touch any objects or non-touchscreen equipment on display.
Installation elements may be approached to a maximum distance of 30 centimetres.
Sitting on window sills, opening windows, closing doors, or operating light switches and other controls is strictly prohibited.
Use of mobile phones in a way that disturbs the visitor experience, as well as loud talking, is not permitted within the exhibition space.

Use of the Building

The Exhibition may not be visited by persons under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances, or by those wearing conspicuously inappropriate attire (e.g. swimwear, bare torso, barefoot). Visitors who fail to comply with these Regulations may be escorted from the building by staff responsible for security.
Toilets and baby-changing facilities are available free of charge to ticket holders.
The Roof Garden 360 and the Round Bastion Terrace may be visited with a valid Exhibition ticket or a guided walk ticket organised by Várkapitányság Nonprofit Ltd. In adverse weather conditions, access to the Roof Garden 360 and the Round Bastion Terrace may be restricted. Children under the age of 14 may only stay on the terraces under parental supervision. The decorative stones must not be removed or thrown over the edge of the walls. Such actions are strictly prohibited, pose a serious danger to life, and may result in exclusion from the site as well as liability for any resulting damage. Visitors must use the exhibition areas as intended, maintain the premises in an orderly condition, and treat the building, its equipment and its furnishings with due care and in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Visitors are asked not to litter. Waste should be disposed of only in the bins provided.
Food and drink are not permitted in the exhibition spaces. Objects of a size that may obstruct emergency escape routes (e.g. ride-on toys, scooters, large musical instruments) are also prohibited. Bringing flammable or explosive substances onto the premises is strictly forbidden. The Exhibition may be visited in accordance with the Citadella Fortress Fire Safety Regulations currently in force. If, due to behaviour contrary to legal regulations or these Regulations (e.g. smoking, causing fire, misuse of a manual fire alarm), the automatic fire alarm system is activated or the fire brigade is dispatched, the person responsible shall reimburse all resulting costs and damages within five working days of notification.
Visitors who violate these Regulations may, following a warning, be temporarily or permanently excluded from the premises, and official proceedings may be initiated. Várkapitányság Nonprofit Zrt. reserves the right to deny access to the Exhibition to anyone who fails to comply with these Regulations. Visitors who breach the Regulations are required to leave the building immediately when instructed by a staff member or security officer of Várkapitányság Nonprofit Zrt. Should they fail to do so, the security officer is authorised to take the measures provided for under Act CXXXIII of 2005 on Personal and Property Protection and Private Investigation Activities and to escort the visitor out from the premises.

Smoking

Smoking including the use of electronic cigarettes, is prohibited throughout the entire exhibition area. Smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor areas.The provisions of Act XLII of 1999 on the Protection of Non-Smokers and Certain Regulations on the Consumption and Distribution of Tobacco Products apply throughout the exhibition premise.

Photography, Audio and Video Recording

Photography and video recording without flash are permitted within the Exhibition. During guided tours, thematic walks, educational programmes and museum or heritage pedagogy sessions, video and audio recording are strictly prohibited. A video surveillance system is in operation throughout the entire exhibition area. Recordings are stored according to the Privacy Notice available on Várkapitányság Nonprofit Zrt.’s website. Making video or audio recordings for public use is only permitted upon prior arrangement and with written permission from the Várkapitányság.

Cloakroom

Backpacks, umbrellas, large bags and coats may not be taken into the exhibition spaces. Visitors are asked to use the free cloakroom lockers provided, which are secured with combination locks. After the exhibition closing time, the lockers will be opened and emptied in the presence of the security staff. Any items found will be kept for up to 15 days, after which they will be handed over to the Clerk of Újbuda Local Government.
Small backpacks must be worn at the front or carried by hand.
Visitors are not permitted to carry bottles, food, drink, children’s toys, weapons or items resembling weapons, knives or other sharp objects, or any other items that could endanger the safety of persons on the premises or the condition of the Exhibition’s installations. Bicycles, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, Segways, and other vehicles are also not permitted. Animals are prohibited, with the exception of guide dogs and assistance dogs, which must be equipped with a muzzle, lead, and high-visibility harness markings.

Accidents

In the event of any danger or accident, or event that breaches the Regulations, please notify a member of the security staff immediately. In extraordinary situations (e.g. natural disaster, fire, bomb alert, etc.), all visitors in the exhibition area must follow the instructions of the Company’s staff without delay.

Other Provisions

We accept no responsibility for valuables left unattended within the exhibition area. For lost property, please contact the ticket information desk or use our customer service platform. Only authorised guides, educators and museum staff employed by the Várkapitányság (Castle Headquarters) organisation may conduct guided tours, thematic walks, and museum or heritage pedagogy sessions on the premises premises.

The above provisions constitute the rules of the Visitor Regulations. Visitors who violate these Regulations may, following a warning, be temporarily or permanently excluded from the premises, and official proceedings may be initiated. Any damage resulting from a breach of these Regulations shall be borne by the person responsible for the breach, or by the person responsible for that individual.
If the breach also constitutes a violation of law, the person concerned shall bear full legal responsibility and be subject to any applicable legal sanctions.

Park Regulations


The purpose of the Park Usage Regulations (hereinafter: Regulations) is to define the conduct of persons present within the park (hereinafter: park) belonging to the Citadella fortress, located at 1110 Budapest, 1 Citadella Promenade, 11th District, registered under land registry number 5412 in Budapest 11th District, and operated by Várkapitányság Nonprofit Zrt. (registered office: 6 Ybl Miklós Square, 1013 Budapest; hereinafter: Várkapitányság), in their interactions with one another.
In order to ensure a pleasant stay for all, all visitors in the park are expected to behave in a considerate manner, in keeping with the norms of community life and mutual respect.
Feel free to enjoy yourself, but please bear in mind the following:

Visitor Regulations

1) The park is open to all, provided that these Regulations and the applicable laws are observed.
2) Opening hours

3) The park may be visited at your own risk. Please take all reasonable steps to prevent and avoid damage, hazardous situations and accidents.
4) In the event of an emergency or accident, please immediately notify the security staff of Várkapitányság, and, if necessary, contact the appropriate emergency services by calling 112 (police, ambulance or fire service).
5) In the case of rain or snowfall, please take extra care for your own safety; walking surfaces may become slippery and stronger-than-usual winds may make pedestrian movement more difficult.
6) In stormy or windy weather, and following significant snowfall, it is prohibited to remain under trees, and the park may only be visited with increased vigilance.
7) Video or audio recordings intended for public use and involving commercial activity may only be made subject to prior consultation and with the written permission of the Várkapitányság.

8) Pets and other animals may be brought into the park only on a lead, with the exception of guide dogs and assistance dogs. Please help keep the park clean. Always pick up after your pet and dispose of waste in the designated bins.

9) Smoking is permitted only in designated areas clearly marked by signage.
10) Events, performances and gatherings may be held only in compliance with the relevant legislation and with the prior written approval of the Várkapitányság.
11) Guided tours may be conducted only in a manner that does not disturb other visitors or staff (for example, without using a speaker or an amplifier).
12) Várkapitányság accepts no responsibility for items left unattended or for personal belongings kept on one’s person, nor for any injury to persons or damage to property.
13) Please move around the park with care, use the designated paths and stairways, and make use of the seating and rest areas provided. Climbing on walls or fences is strictly prohibited and extremely dangerous.
14) The use of any means of transport (including bicycles, scooters, skateboards, roller skates, Segways or similar devices) is not permitted within the park.
15) Please use the park in an environmentally responsible manner. Picking, trampling on, or otherwise damaging plants is not permitted.
16) Please use the litter bins and recycling facilities provided, and refrain from littering anywhere in the park.
17) A person may be asked to leave the park (and may be escorted out by staff) if they:
• breach any provision of these Regulations or the applicable laws, or continue such behaviour in spite of having been warned;
• endanger the life, physical safety or property rights of others, or the natural environment in any way whatsoever;
• behave in a disorderly, disruptive or antisocial manner, or in a way that may require police intervention;
• through their conduct threaten the order or cleanliness of the park, or cause damage to any objects, structures, plants or facilities (including, for example, irrigation systems, benches or waste containers), including acts of vandalism such as graffiti;
• possess or use prohibited items (including, but not limited to, firearms, stun devices or fireworks), prohibited substances (such as narcotics or other psychoactive substances, explosives, etc.), or any object that may endanger public safety or the physical safety of themselves or others (e.g. sharp or cutting implements) while in the park;
• are inadequately clothed, heavily intoxicated or under the influence of substances, in an unacceptable state of hygiene, or appear to be residing in the park.
18) Please report any conduct that breaches these Regulations to the on-duty patrol staff or our security personnel using the contact details provided below.
19) In the event of any damage (including physical, moral or environmental damage), a report will be drawn up and the person responsible will be required to compensate for the damage caused.
